Quick Answer
Seoul Station airport check-in can turn your departure day into a luggage-free final day in the city.
Eligible passengers can complete airline check-in, receive a boarding pass, drop checked baggage and complete departure immigration at the Seoul Station City Airport Terminal.
You then travel to Incheon Airport on the AREX Express Train, use the designated departure passage and complete airport security before going to the boarding gate.
- ✓ Your flight must depart from Incheon Airport on the same day
- ✓ Your operating airline and route must be eligible
- ✓ You must purchase an AREX Express Train ticket
- ✓ Terminal 1 check-in closes at least 3 hours before departure
- ✓ Terminal 2 check-in closes at least 3 hours 20 minutes before departure
- ✓ The Seoul Station counter also has a final daily closing time
- ✓ Airport security is still completed at Incheon Airport
Important:
Do not go to Seoul Station with your suitcase until you have confirmed the operating airline, departure terminal, route restrictions and exact check-in deadline.
1. Who Can Use Seoul Station Airport Check-In?
The Seoul Station City Airport Terminal is located on B2 of the Airport Railroad area at Seoul Station.
It is designed for passengers taking an eligible international flight from Incheon Airport on the same day.
Basic eligibility
- ✓ Same-day international departure from Incheon Airport
- ✓ Eligible airline and flight
- ✓ AREX Express Train ticket to Incheon Airport
- ✓ Arrival before the applicable check-in cutoff
- ✓ Baggage that the Seoul Station counter can accept
- ✓ Required passport, visa and destination documents
The service is not available simply because you are departing from Incheon Airport.
You must also be traveling with a participating operating airline and using the AREX Express Train.
Important:
A same-day flight from Incheon Airport is not enough by itself. You also need an AREX Express Train ticket and an eligible operating airline.
Who benefits most?
- ✓ Travelers staying near Seoul Station
- ✓ Travelers checking out of a hotel early
- ✓ Travelers planning a final meal or shopping trip in Seoul
- ✓ Travelers with heavy checked baggage
- ✓ Passengers who already plan to use the AREX Express Train
The service is less useful when you need a taxi, airport limousine bus or private transfer instead of the AREX Express Train.
2. Eligible Airlines and Flights
The airline list is divided by the Incheon Airport terminal used by the flight.
Check the terminal on the booking confirmation before buying the AREX ticket.
Incheon Airport Terminal 1
- ✓ Jeju Air
- ✓ T’way Air
- ✓ Eastar Jet
Jeju Air and T’way Air exclude certain routes in the Americas, including Guam and Saipan.
T’way codeshare flights may be eligible when the aircraft is operated by T’way Air. Eastar Jet eligibility applies to flights operated by Eastar Jet.
Incheon Airport Terminal 2
- ✓ Korean Air
- ✓ Asiana Airlines
- ✓ Jin Air
- ✓ Air Busan
- ✓ Air Seoul
Korean Air codeshare flights may be eligible when the aircraft is operated by Korean Air. Asiana Airlines codeshare flights may be eligible when the aircraft is operated by Asiana Airlines.
Jin Air and Air Seoul exclude certain routes in the Americas, including Guam and Saipan. Eligible codeshare flights must be operated by the participating airline.
Air Busan codeshare flights may be eligible when the aircraft is operated by Air Busan.
How to check a codeshare flight
Do not rely only on the airline name or flight number at the top of the booking.
- ✓ Open the booking confirmation
- ✓ Find the words “operated by”
- ✓ Check the actual operating airline
- ✓ Confirm that the route is not excluded
- ✓ Contact the airline when the booking is unclear
Important:
Check “operated by” on your booking confirmation. A flight sold by a participating airline may still be ineligible when another airline operates the aircraft.
Airlines, terminals and route restrictions can change. Confirm the current list on the official AREX page before departure.
Check your flight before going to Seoul Station
Confirm the operating airline, departure terminal, eligible route and check-in deadline before leaving your hotel.
Check Official Eligibility →3. AREX Express Train Ticket Requirement
The Seoul Station City Airport Terminal is available only to AREX Express Train customers.
An all-stop train ticket, subway card or airport bus reservation does not meet this requirement.
How the ticket is used
- ✓ Purchase an AREX Express Train ticket
- ✓ Select the correct Incheon Airport terminal
- ✓ Reserve a departure time that leaves enough airport time
- ✓ Scan the ticket QR code at the City Airport Terminal gate
- ✓ Return to Seoul Station before the reserved train departure
The AREX Express Train runs nonstop from Seoul Station to the airport terminals.
Official journey times are approximately 43 minutes to Terminal 1 and 51 minutes to Terminal 2.
As of July 2026, the displayed adult fare is 13,000 won, with a lower member fare shown on the official reservation page. Prices and promotions may change.
Travel note: Select the terminal shown on the flight booking.
Getting off at the wrong terminal can add unnecessary transfer time on departure day.
The Express Train seat is reserved. Do not plan to arrive at the platform at the last second after returning from your final Seoul schedule.
Need to compare airport transport?
The City Airport Terminal requires the AREX Express Train. Check the separate guide when comparing AREX, airport buses, taxis and late-night travel.
Compare Incheon Airport Transport →4. Check-In and Baggage Drop Deadlines
The Seoul Station airline check-in counters officially operate from 5:20 AM to 7:00 PM.
The final listed reception time is 6:50 PM. Departure immigration operates from 5:30 AM to 7:00 PM.
However, the counter’s daily operating hours are only one part of the deadline.
Terminal 1 cutoff
Complete check-in and baggage drop at least 3 hours before the scheduled aircraft departure time.
Terminal 2 cutoff
Complete check-in and baggage drop at least 3 hours 20 minutes before the scheduled aircraft departure time.
Example for a 5:00 PM flight
Terminal 1 passenger: finish Seoul Station check-in by 2:00 PM.
Terminal 2 passenger: finish Seoul Station check-in by 1:40 PM.
Use the earlier deadline
Compare the flight-based cutoff with the City Airport Terminal’s final reception time.
Use whichever deadline comes first.
- ✓ Very early flight: the required cutoff may be before the counter opens
- ✓ Late-night flight: the daily counter closing time may apply first
- ✓ Busy morning: allow time for a queue before the deadline
- ✓ Document check: allow extra time when visas or entry documents require review
Important:
The deadline is based on completing check-in, not merely entering the terminal or joining the queue. Arrive with enough time to finish airline and baggage procedures.
5. Seoul Station Check-In Step by Step
Step 1. Confirm the operating airline
Check the airline operating the aircraft, the route and the Incheon Airport terminal.
Do this before traveling to Seoul Station with checked baggage.
Step 2. Calculate the cutoff
Subtract 3 hours for a Terminal 1 flight or 3 hours 20 minutes for a Terminal 2 flight.
Then compare that time with the City Airport Terminal’s operating hours.
Step 3. Purchase the AREX Express Train ticket
Choose the correct airport terminal and a train that gives you enough time for airport security, terminal walking and boarding.
Step 4. Go to B2 at Seoul Station
Follow signs for the Airport Railroad and City Airport Terminal.
Use the Express Train ticket QR code to enter the terminal area.
Step 5. Check in with the airline
Present the passport and travel documents at the participating airline counter.
Complete seat selection, airline check-in and boarding-pass issuance.
Step 6. Drop checked baggage
Make sure all batteries, valuables, medicine and items needed later are already in the carry-on bag.
Keep the baggage claim receipt after the suitcase is accepted.
Step 7. Complete departure immigration
Take the boarding pass and passport to the departure immigration area at Seoul Station.
Do not leave the terminal before confirming that the required procedures are complete.
Step 8. Leave for the final Seoul schedule
After the baggage and immigration procedures are finished, you can leave Seoul Station and spend the remaining time in the city.
Step 9. Return for the reserved train
Return early enough to reach the Express Train platform without rushing.
The large suitcase has already been checked, but the passport, boarding pass and carry-on baggage remain your responsibility.
Step 10. Continue departure procedures at Incheon
At Incheon Airport, use the designated departure passage and complete security screening before going to the gate.
6. What to Remove Before Dropping Your Bags
Once the suitcase is accepted at Seoul Station, do not expect to open it again at Incheon Airport.
Move every essential item into the carry-on bag before approaching the airline counter.
Keep these items with you
- ✓ Passport
- ✓ Boarding pass
- ✓ Wallet and payment cards
- ✓ Phone and charging cable
- ✓ Power banks
- ✓ Spare lithium batteries
- ✓ Essential medicine
- ✓ Laptop and valuable electronics
- ✓ Fragile or irreplaceable items
- ✓ Items needed during the remaining Seoul schedule
- ✓ Carry-on liquids prepared for airport security
Important:
Remove every power bank and spare lithium battery before dropping your suitcase. These items must stay in carry-on baggage.
Check the suitcase one final time before it disappears behind the baggage counter.

Check Battery Rules →7. What Happens to Your Checked Baggage?
The participating airline accepts and tags the suitcase at Seoul Station.
You do not take the checked suitcase onto the AREX Express Train.
Once accepted, it remains in the airline’s baggage process for the flight unless the airline gives different instructions.
Before leaving the counter
- ✓ Confirm the destination on the baggage tag
- ✓ Keep the baggage claim receipt
- ✓ Confirm that all bags were accepted
- ✓ Ask whether any special baggage procedure remains
- ✓ Check that passports and valuables are still in the carry-on
Baggage that may not be accepted
AREX excludes items requiring special handling, including certain sports equipment, musical instruments and oversized baggage.
The official large-baggage guideline includes baggage measuring at least 45 × 90 × 60cm or weighing at least 50kg, as well as items longer than 150cm.
Individual airlines may apply additional restrictions.
- ✓ Oversized suitcases
- ✓ Heavy baggage requiring special handling
- ✓ Musical instruments
- ✓ Some sports equipment
- ✓ Pets and animal travel equipment
- ✓ Mobility devices requiring special assistance
Korean Air specifically excludes passengers traveling with pets, unaccompanied minors and passengers requiring certain special assistance from City Airport Terminal check-in.
Those restrictions are airline-specific. Check directly with the operating carrier when traveling with special baggage or support needs.
8. Immigration and Airport Security
Departure immigration and airport security are different procedures.
Completed at Seoul Station
- ✓ Airline check-in
- ✓ Boarding-pass issuance
- ✓ Checked-baggage drop
- ✓ Departure immigration
Completed at Incheon Airport
- ✓ Entry through the designated departure passage
- ✓ Carry-on baggage security screening
- ✓ Passenger security screening
- ✓ Travel to the assigned boarding gate
Important:
City check-in does not replace airport security screening. After arriving at Incheon Airport, use the designated departure passage and complete security before going to your gate.
Security may still inspect liquids, electronics, batteries, medicine and other carry-on items.
Do not assume that completing Seoul Station immigration allows you to arrive at Incheon Airport immediately before boarding.
Allow time for the walk from the AREX platform, security screening, terminal movement and the airline’s boarding deadline.
9. Spend Your Final Hours in Seoul Without Luggage
This is the main reason many travelers use Seoul Station airport check-in.
After the airline accepts the suitcase and departure immigration is complete, the large bag no longer controls the final schedule.
A practical departure-day route
Hotel check-out → Seoul Station check-in → Baggage drop → Departure immigration → Final meal or shopping → Return to Seoul Station → AREX Express Train → Incheon Airport
Nearby final-day options
- ✓ Eat near Seoul Station
- ✓ Visit Namdaemun Market
- ✓ Take a short trip to Myeongdong
- ✓ Shop inside the Seoul Station area
- ✓ Spend time at a nearby cafĂ©
Keep the schedule simple.
A distant attraction, long meal reservation or complicated transfer can create unnecessary risk on departure day.
Set a return alarm
- ✓ Save the AREX departure time
- ✓ Save the train boarding location
- ✓ Set an alarm for the return to Seoul Station
- ✓ Add walking and navigation time
- ✓ Keep the ticket QR code accessible
Do not book the last realistic train for your flight. A missed train can remove the time saved by using the City Airport Terminal.
10. What to Do at Incheon Airport
Get off at the terminal selected when purchasing the AREX ticket.
Terminal 1 and Terminal 2 are separate stops.
After leaving the AREX platform
- ✓ Follow signs to the departure level
- ✓ Find the designated City Airport Terminal departure passage
- ✓ Present the passport and boarding pass when requested
- ✓ Complete airport security screening
- ✓ Check the latest boarding gate
- ✓ Walk or take the airport shuttle to the gate area when required
You normally do not need to return to the regular airline check-in or baggage-drop counter when the Seoul Station procedures were completed successfully.
However, follow any special instructions given by airline staff. A document issue, flight change or baggage problem may require additional assistance at the airport.
Travel note: Check the boarding gate again after arriving at Incheon Airport.
Gate assignments can change even when the boarding pass was issued earlier at Seoul Station.
11. When You Should Skip Seoul Station Check-In
City check-in is useful only when the eligibility and schedule are clear.
Checking in directly at Incheon Airport may be safer in the following situations.
- ✓ The operating airline is not on the participating list
- ✓ The route is excluded
- ✓ The codeshare operating airline is unclear
- ✓ The flight is too early for the counter opening time
- ✓ The applicable deadline has already passed
- ✓ You plan to take a bus, taxi or private car to the airport
- ✓ You have oversized or specially handled baggage
- ✓ You are traveling with a pet
- ✓ You need wheelchair or other special airline assistance
- ✓ An unaccompanied-minor service is required
- ✓ Visa or destination documents need detailed airport review
Important:
When eligibility is unclear, checking in directly at Incheon Airport is safer than taking your luggage to Seoul Station without confirmation.
Travelers who only need temporary storage, rather than airline baggage check-in, can use lockers or luggage-storage services instead.
