Jeju Waterfalls Guide 2026: Jeongbang vs Cheonjiyeon vs Cheonjeyeon, Tickets, Transportation and Accessibility
Jeongbang, Cheonjiyeon and Cheonjeyeon are three of Jeju Island’s best-known waterfalls, but they are not interchangeable attractions.
Jeongbang is known for its dramatic coastal rocks, Cheonjiyeon has a comparatively gentle landscaped approach, and Cheonjeyeon is a larger three-stage waterfall area in Jungmun Tourist Complex.
This guide compares their walking conditions, current admission information, transportation, accessibility and the best itinerary for different travelers.
Do not confuse Cheonjiyeon and Cheonjeyeon
Cheonjiyeon Waterfall is near central Seogwipo. Cheonjeyeon Waterfalls are inside Jungmun Tourist Complex.
Current official visitor information
Jeongbang and Cheonjeyeon currently close before evening, while Cheonjiyeon currently offers later admission. Final ticket admission is earlier than the site’s closing time.
Information checked in July 2026
Hours, ticket prices, night access, parking and weather restrictions can change. Check the official Seogwipo visitor page again on the day of travel.

Jeongbang Waterfall Guide
Jeongbang Waterfall is approximately 23 meters high and is known for dropping from a dark volcanic cliff immediately beside the sea.
The coastal setting makes it visually different from the other two waterfalls.
Current official information
Current hours: 09:00–17:50
Final admission: 17:30
Adult individual ticket: KRW 2,000
Youth or child ticket: KRW 1,000
Official estimated visit: Under one hour
Important: Hours can change with sunset and weather
What the visit is actually like
- Arrive at the entrance or public parking area.
- Buy the admission ticket.
- Walk down the stairs toward the coast.
- Cross the uneven rocky area carefully.
- View the waterfall and ocean.
- Return by the same uphill stairs.
The official attraction page estimates approximately five minutes from the parking area to the waterfall by stairs, but crossing the rocks and taking photographs requires additional time.
Jeongbang Stairs and Rocky Shore
Jeongbang should not be treated as a flat observation-deck attraction.
Main difficulties
- ⚠ Downhill and uphill stairs
- ⚠ Large uneven volcanic rocks
- ⚠ Wet surfaces and water spray
- ⚠ Crowding near popular photo positions
- ⚠ Strong wind beside the coast
Can you walk close to the waterfall?
Visitors can normally approach the lower rocky viewing area when it is open, but access boundaries can change according to water, wind and safety conditions.
Stay inside the permitted area and do not climb onto isolated wet rocks for a photograph.
Rain increases both scenery and risk
Recent rain may increase the waterfall’s volume, but it can also make the stairs and coastal rocks much more slippery.
Jeongbang With Children or Older Travelers
Consider Jeongbang when
- ✓ Everyone can manage stairs independently
- ✓ Shoes have stable grip
- ✓ The weather is dry and calm
Choose another waterfall when
- ⚠ A stroller is required
- ⚠ A traveler uses a wheelchair
- ⚠ Knee or balance problems make rocks difficult
- ⚠ An adult must carry a child across wet rocks
- ⚠ The group has large luggage
Cheonjiyeon is generally the more practical alternative for a mixed-age group.
Cheonjiyeon Waterfall Guide
Cheonjiyeon Waterfall is approximately 22 meters high and 12 meters wide.
The approach follows a landscaped path beside water and subtropical vegetation, making the walk part of the attraction.
Current official information
Current hours: 09:00–22:00
Final admission: 21:20
Adult individual ticket: KRW 2,000
Youth or child ticket: KRW 1,000
Official estimated visit: 30–60 minutes
Parking capacity listed: Approximately 230 passenger cars and buses
What the visit is actually like
- Enter through the ticket area.
- Follow the landscaped river path.
- Pass bridges, vegetation and viewing points.
- Reach the main waterfall viewing area.
- Return along the walking path.
It is not directly beside the parking area
Although the path is comparatively gentle, visitors still need to walk to the waterfall and back.
Can You Visit Cheonjiyeon at Night?
The current official page lists admission until 21:20 and closing at 22:00.
Cheonjiyeon has nighttime lighting, but temporary maintenance, weather or operational changes can shorten evening access.
Why checking again matters
From February through May 2026, night viewing was temporarily suspended for lighting repairs and the site closed earlier.
The current official page again lists normal evening hours, but travelers should still verify the latest notice.
Night visit advantages
- ✓ Useful after a daytime Seogwipo itinerary
- ✓ Cooler during summer evenings
- ✓ Illuminated forest and waterfall scenery
Night visit cautions
- ⚠ Reduced visibility outside lit paths
- ⚠ Wet pavement after rain
- ⚠ Fewer return buses late at night
Cheonjiyeon Accessibility
Cheonjiyeon is generally the most realistic choice of the three for travelers who want to avoid rocky shores and repeated valley stairs.
Still consider
- ✓ The complete round-trip walking distance
- ✓ Current construction or route changes
- ✓ Wet surfaces
- ✓ Wheelchair or stroller turning space
- ✓ Fatigue during the return walk
Travelers with specific mobility needs should confirm the current accessible route before arrival.
Cheonjeyeon Waterfalls Guide
Cheonjeyeon is a larger waterfall and forest complex inside Jungmun Tourist Complex.
It contains three waterfall areas, a valley route and Seonimgyo Bridge.
Current official information
Current hours: 09:00–17:50
Final admission: 17:10
Adult individual ticket: KRW 2,500
Youth or child ticket: KRW 1,350
Parking: Public parking area
Important: Hours and access may change according to sunset and weather
Do not plan it as one quick viewpoint
The site covers a wider forested area than Jeongbang or Cheonjiyeon.
Travelers who want to see every waterfall section should allow time for repeated walking, stairs, photographs and the return route.
First, Second and Third Cheonjeyeon Falls
First waterfall area
The first section is formed around a cliff and pool with spring water.
The visible falling-water effect can vary, so visitors should not expect the same powerful cascade shown in every promotional photograph.
Second waterfall area
The second section is often the most recognizable waterfall view in the complex.
It requires additional walking beyond the first area.
Third waterfall area
The third section is farther along the valley route and requires more time and effort.
You do not have to see everything
A group with limited time or mobility can choose only the entrance area, first section and bridge rather than completing the entire site.
Short Visit
Entrance area, first waterfall section and Seonimgyo Bridge.
Medium Visit
First and second waterfall areas with the main forest route.
Full Visit
All accessible waterfall sections, bridge, rest and photography.
Seonimgyo Bridge
Seonimgyo is the large arched pedestrian bridge crossing the Cheonjeyeon valley.
It is decorated with figures representing the seven nymphs connected with the waterfall’s traditional legend.
Why include the bridge?
- ✓ Elevated valley view
- ✓ Distinctive Jungmun landmark
- ✓ Useful even during a shorter waterfall visit
- ✓ Connection with surrounding Jungmun attractions
Bridge cautions
Strong wind, heights and the approach slope may be uncomfortable for some travelers.
Current Opening Hours and Tickets

Cheonjeyeon
Hours: 09:00–17:50
Final admission: 17:10

Youth or child: KRW 1,350
The official child category is generally ages 7–12 and the youth category is generally ages 13–24. Some visitors may qualify for free admission with the required identification or proof.
Final Admission vs Closing Time
Final admission is the last time a new visitor can normally enter. It is not the recommended time to begin the visit.
Why the difference matters
- ⚠ Jeongbang requires stairs and rocks
- ⚠ Cheonjiyeon requires a round-trip walk
- ⚠ Cheonjeyeon has several separated sections
- ⚠ Staff may begin clearing routes before full closing
Arrive substantially before final admission when you want a relaxed visit.
Best Time of Day to Visit
Morning
- ✓ Cooler in summer
- ✓ More time for several attractions
- ✓ Lower risk of missing final admission
Midday
- ⚠ Summer heat and humidity
- ⚠ Tour-group crowds
- ⚠ Strong light and water reflection
Late afternoon
Late afternoon can work for Jeongbang or Cheonjeyeon only when you arrive well before final admission.
Evening
Cheonjiyeon is the only one of the three currently listed with regular evening hours.
Best Season for Jeju Waterfalls
Spring
Mild temperatures and green vegetation make walking comfortable, although rain can make stone surfaces slippery.
Summer
Water volume and vegetation may be impressive, but heat, humidity, heavy rain and typhoons require caution.
Autumn
Cooler temperatures can make Cheonjeyeon’s longer walking route more comfortable.
Winter
Coastal wind at Jeongbang can be strong, while wet or icy sections require careful footing.
Visiting After Heavy Rain
Recent rain can increase waterfall volume and create a more dramatic view.
It can also increase the risk of slipping, falling water spray and temporary access restrictions.
Check these conditions
- ✓ Official open or closed status
- ✓ Stair and trail condition
- ✓ Coastal wind at Jeongbang
- ✓ Valley restrictions at Cheonjeyeon
- ✓ Return transportation during bad weather
More water can also mean more slippery paths
Do not step beyond barriers or enter a closed section for a stronger waterfall photograph.
Rain, Typhoons and Temporary Closures
Jeongbang and Cheonjeyeon officially state that operating hours and access can change according to sunset and weather.
Possible reasons for restrictions
- ⚠ Heavy rain
- ⚠ Typhoon warnings
- ⚠ Strong coastal wind
- ⚠ Flooded or slippery paths
- ⚠ Fallen branches or maintenance
- ⚠ Lighting or facility repairs
A closed section may reopen later
Do not rely on a blog review or map status from the previous day. Check the official attraction page or call the site directly.
Do not use another waterfall as an automatic backup
Weather affecting one coastal or valley area may also affect another waterfall.
What Shoes Should You Wear?
Best choice
- ✓ Walking shoes
- ✓ Athletic shoes
- ✓ Shoes with stable, unworn soles
Avoid at Jeongbang
- ⚠ Loose slippers
- ⚠ Smooth-soled sandals
- ⚠ High heels
- ⚠ Shoes that are difficult on large rocks
Rain equipment
A waterproof jacket can be safer than holding a large umbrella while using stairs or crossing uneven rocks.
Children, Older Travelers and Mobility Needs
Most Practical
Cheonjiyeon
Comparatively gentle landscaped route, but still requires a round-trip walk.
Adjust the Route
Cheonjeyeon
Visit only selected waterfall areas rather than completing the entire valley route.
Most Difficult
Jeongbang
Stairs and uneven coastal rocks make the lower area unsuitable for many mobility needs.
Traveling with children
- ✓ Keep children beside an adult near water
- ✓ Do not allow running on wet stairs
- ✓ Avoid carrying a child across Jeongbang’s rocks
- ✓ Shorten Cheonjeyeon before fatigue begins
Strollers
A stroller is not practical on the lower Jeongbang route and cannot complete the full Cheonjeyeon valley route.
Cheonjiyeon may be the most realistic option, but current stroller access should still be confirmed.
Wheelchairs
The lower Jeongbang shore and full Cheonjeyeon route are not suitable for ordinary wheelchair travel.
Confirm current accessible viewing areas and assistance before arrival.
Toilets and Visitor Facilities
Jeongbang
The official page lists public parking, toilets, a convenience store, drinking facilities, guidance facilities and emergency equipment.
Cheonjiyeon
The official page lists parking, toilets, convenience facilities, restaurants and souvenir shops.
Cheonjeyeon
The official page lists public parking and toilets.
Use the toilet before entering a longer route
This is particularly important before completing the wider Cheonjeyeon waterfall area.
Getting to Each Waterfall
Search the exact Korean name
- ✓ 정방폭포 for Jeongbang
- ✓ 천지연폭포 for Cheonjiyeon
- ✓ 천제연폭포 for Cheonjeyeon
Check the entrance rather than only the attraction boundary
A map pin at the center of a waterfall or valley may not show the ticket office, parking entrance or correct bus stop.
Save both arrival and departure stops
The return stop may be on the opposite side of a road or use a different stop name.
Prepare Korean map and transportation apps
Save the Korean attraction name, entrance, bus stop and return route before leaving the hotel.
Best Apps for Traveling in Korea →Getting There From Jeju Airport
The easiest plan is usually to travel first to your hotel area and visit the nearest waterfall from there.
Staying in Jungmun
Cheonjeyeon is the natural choice because it is inside Jungmun Tourist Complex.
Staying in central Seogwipo
Cheonjiyeon and Jeongbang are more convenient than Cheonjeyeon.
Visiting immediately with luggage
A taxi or rental car may reduce transfers, but large suitcases should not be taken onto waterfall paths.
Jeju Airport to Jungmun or Seogwipo
Compare airport bus 600, public buses, taxis, private transfers and rental-car shuttles.
Read the Airport Transfer Guide →From Central Seogwipo
Cheonjiyeon
Cheonjiyeon is convenient for a central Seogwipo itinerary involving the harbor, downtown streets or market.
Jeongbang
Jeongbang is east of the central downtown area and works well with the coast or Seobok Exhibition area.
Cheonjeyeon
Cheonjeyeon requires transportation west to Jungmun and should not be treated as part of the same downtown walking area.
From Jungmun Tourist Complex
Cheonjeyeon
Cheonjeyeon is the most convenient waterfall for travelers staying in Jungmun.
Cheonjiyeon and Jeongbang
Both require travel from Jungmun to central Seogwipo.
Check the total road time and final return transportation rather than assuming they are nearby.
Bus, Taxi or Rental Car?
Public Bus
Best for: One or two waterfalls
Advantage: Lower cost
Works well when: Staying nearby
Main concern: Waiting, stop direction and final return
Taxi
Best for: Short itineraries and mixed-age groups
Advantage: Direct entrance access
Works well for: Jeongbang and Cheonjiyeon
Main concern: Cost between Jungmun and downtown
Rental Car
Best for: All three waterfalls
Advantage: Flexible timing
Works well for: Southern Jeju road trips
Main concern: Parking, luggage and return time
Driving around southern Jeju
Review documents, insurance, parking, vehicle checks and airport return procedures before renting.
Renting a Car in Korea 2026 →Parking at Each Waterfall
Jeongbang
The official visitor page lists a public parking area.
Cheonjiyeon
The official page lists space for approximately 230 passenger cars and buses.
Cheonjeyeon
The official visitor page lists public parking.
Confirm the current fee and entrance
Parking rules and charges can change. Check the signs when entering rather than assuming every waterfall parking area is free.
Busy periods
- ⚠ Weekends
- ⚠ Public holidays
- ⚠ Summer vacation
- ⚠ Clear weather after heavy rain
- ⚠ Tour-bus arrival periods
Visiting With Luggage
Do not take a suitcase to Jeongbang’s lower shore
Stairs and large rocks make rolling luggage unsafe and impractical.
Do not carry a suitcase around the full Cheonjeyeon route
The site includes slopes, stairs and a long return walk.
Cheonjiyeon is easier, but storage is still better
A suitcase can reduce walking comfort and may block other visitors.
Better luggage options
- ✓ Leave bags at the hotel
- ✓ Visit after check-in
- ✓ Use a confirmed luggage-storage service
- ✓ Carry only valuables and essential items
Luggage in a rental car
- ✓ Remove passports, wallets and electronics
- ✓ Keep bags out of exterior view
- ✓ Lock the vehicle
Can You Visit All Three Waterfalls in One Day?
It is possible with a rental car and an early start, but it is not the best plan for every traveler.
You must include
- ✓ Three parking or arrival processes
- ✓ Three ticket procedures
- ✓ Walking and photographs
- ✓ Jungmun-to-Seogwipo travel
- ✓ Meals and toilets
- ✓ Weather delays
By public transportation
Visiting all three can involve more waiting and transportation than actual sightseeing.
One regional pair is usually more enjoyable.
Jeongbang and Cheonjiyeon Half-Day Route
This is the most practical pairing for central Seogwipo.
- Visit Jeongbang while the coastal area is open and dry.
- Continue through the Seobok Exhibition or coastal area.
- Eat in central Seogwipo.
- Visit Cheonjiyeon in the late afternoon or evening.
- Continue to the harbor, market or accommodation.
Why this order works
Jeongbang closes earlier and is more weather-sensitive, while Cheonjiyeon currently remains open later.
Cheonjeyeon and Jungmun Half-Day Route
- Visit Cheonjeyeon early enough for the full route.
- Cross or view Seonimgyo Bridge.
- Visit a nearby Jungmun attraction.
- Eat or rest in Jungmun Tourist Complex.
- Return to the hotel before the final bus or shuttle.
Do not underestimate the walking
Adding a museum, beach and all three waterfall sections can create a tiring schedule.
Full-Day Seogwipo Waterfall Itinerary
Rental-car itinerary
- Morning: Cheonjeyeon Waterfalls and Seonimgyo Bridge
- Late morning: Jungmun attraction or short rest
- Lunch: Move toward central Seogwipo
- Afternoon: Jeongbang Waterfall
- Evening: Cheonjiyeon Waterfall
- Night: Market, harbor or hotel
Bad-weather version
Check Jeongbang first because coastal rocks may be restricted.
Shorten Cheonjeyeon if the valley stairs are wet and use Cheonjiyeon only when its walking path remains safely open.
Do not add distant eastern or western Jeju attractions
Combining all three waterfalls with Seongsan, Udo or Hyeopjae usually creates an unnecessarily rushed day.
Common Jeju Waterfall Mistakes
Confusing Cheonjiyeon and Cheonjeyeon
Save the Korean name and correct map pin.
Thinking Jeongbang is a flat viewpoint
The lower area requires stairs and uneven rocks.
Wearing slippers at Jeongbang
Use stable shoes with grip.
Assuming Cheonjiyeon is directly beside the parking area
Include the round-trip landscaped walk.
Assuming Cheonjiyeon is always open at night
Check current lighting maintenance and operating notices.
Thinking all Cheonjeyeon waterfall sections are together
The larger site requires walking between sections.
Expecting the first Cheonjeyeon fall to look identical every day
Visible water conditions can vary.
Ignoring the final admission time
It is earlier than full closing.
Assuming more rain only improves the view
It also increases slipping and closure risk.
Taking a stroller to Jeongbang’s lower area
The stairs and rocks are not suitable.
Taking children or older travelers to all three in one day
Choose one regional pair or shorten the routes.
Bringing a suitcase inside
Store large luggage before sightseeing.
Thinking Jungmun and central Seogwipo are the same walking area
Transportation is required between Cheonjeyeon and the other two waterfalls.
